Natural Homemade Eye Cream

Hi! My name is Abby. I’m 31 years old. I like to spend a lot of time outside, I don’t always use sunscreen, and I like to laugh…a lot…and often. It’s the perfect recipe for dark circles and early on-set (saying this makes me feel younger) wrinkles.

When I need something for my skin, I turn to Mother Nature. I knew she’d provide everything I would need to make the perfect natural eye cream.

Here’s what you’ll need and why:

Baobab Oil - I randomly grabbed some in a beauty store because they were out of the oil that I usually use on my hair. I took it to the beach a few days later and used it on my entire body. It kept my hair soft and protected from the sun and salt, and kept my skin from being dry and helped prevent the nasty after-effects of getting a little too much sun. It’s filled with vitamins and omega fatty acids. This means that it’s great for getting rid of scars, stretch marks, and reducing inflammation without leaving your skin feeling oily or greasy. These qualities likely mean it’s going to be the next BIG oil…which means that it’s perfect for homemade eye cream! Be sure to get cold-pressed organic baobab oil, if you’re going to try it out.

Beeswax - Beeswax is another component that makes this eye cream a dream come true. Its natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties are the cherries on top of an organic, nature-made breathable barrier for your skin. It’s great for your face because it’s rich in Vitamin A which means cell regeneration for your skin and a fresh face for you!

Frankincense Essential Oil - It’s no surprise that this oil was considered fit for a King! It’s anti-aging, healing and mood-boosting qualities make it a fantastic addition to this easy make-at-home eye cream. But don’t be shy - you can apply this to your skin anytime. It’s great for cellular rejuvenation and scar treatments, too! Who couldn’t use a little wrinkle reduction?

Geranium Essential Oil - Used since ancient times, Geranium oil is another must-have in our natural eye cream. You guessed it! It comes jam-packed with anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties that will fade that puffy, sleepy-eyed look that so many of us rock on the daily. But there’s more! It’s great for treating acne and other skin ailments, including eczema (Hallelujah!).

Lavender Essential Oil - I’ve saved the best for last. It’s one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts. It calms your skin and your soul. It’s healing properties are immense. It soothes the inflamed, roughed-up appearance that our skin shows after taking its daily beating from pollutants and harsh elements. It can be used to treat acne, relieve muscular pain, improves circulation, improves your mood, and my favorite, relieves stress. I think about all of the stress we put on our skin and knew I had to add this oil to my all natural eye cream.

Heirloom Confession: I recently used Lavender essential oil on my elderly cat’s hotspot. I had tried several other natural remedies, but the hotspot kept growing and it kept bothering her so badly that she nearly had a bald spot from the constant licking. I turned to Lavender as my last ditch effort before taking her to the veterinarian. I diluted one drop of Young Living Lavender essential oil with two full tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil. I applied a few drops using my fingertips and rubbed it onto the hotspot once a day. I did this for three days and then waited for two to see if there was an improvement. Improvement? It’s nearly gone! It dried up, she stopped bothering it, and it’s now (about four days later) almost completely gone!

Please Note: Cat’s metabolize oils very differently from most animals. There are certain oils that are safe for cats and they must be heavily diluted. Always do your research before using any oils on your pets.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to make this awesome homemade eye cream:

Make a double boiler out of a small pan of water and a glass bowl. Bring the water to a simmer and put the bowl on top of the pot. Or, use a double boiler if you’re fancy like that.

Add the beeswax and Baobab oil to the glass bowl. I used six teaspoons of baobab oil and about four teaspoons of beeswax. You can vary the amount of beeswax that you use in this natural eye cream depending on the texture you’d like it to be.

As it melts, add three drops of Frankincense essential oil, five drops of Geranium essential oil and three drops of Lavender essential oil. Whisk gently until it’s just melted. You do not want to overheat the mixture.

As soon as it’s melted, remove it the bowl and place on a safe surface. I used a wooden cutting board, but you could use a folded towel, as well. You just don’t want it to be on a cold countertop.

Pour into a glass container and set aside to cool before using. I used adorable, 2-ounce blue glass jars and was sure to warm them in the steam from the water prior to filling.

I’ve been applying the cream lightly twice a day. I’ve noticed that if I put it on after I wash my face in the morning, that my makeup is going on smoother and my under eye skin looks brighter.

I cannot wait to see what kind of results I see after a few months of daily use. And I especially cannot wait to hear how you make out when you give this easy natural eye cream a whirl. Your skin will thank you!
