Basic Sugar Scrubs for Fall

Basic. Fall. You all know the jokes. Scarves blowing in the breeze, leggings held tight by tall boots, and everyone debates whether pumpkin spice is better than mulled cider as they shove gallons upon gallons of both right down their Fall loving gullets.

There’s nothing basic about Fall, though. As we’re saying our goodbyes to summer and shipping kids back to school, the trees say their goodbyes to their leaves and begin preparations to hunker down for a long winter’s nap.

I often find my skin doing the same thing. It dries up, gets flaky, falls all over the yard…just kidding on the last one, but it does needs some additional love this time of year.

Next week is the last week of summer, so I thought I’d hit y’all up with some simple homemade sugar scrub recipes that’ll blow your basic minds. And guess what? They aren’t just for girls. I’m bringing in the big guns for some feedback…my husband’s arms and his opinions. BOOM!

Pumpkin Spice Coffee Sugar Scrub: Mix together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 coconut oil, 2 drops nutmeg essential oil, 1 drop clove essential oil, 2 drops cinnamon bark essential oil and two tablespoons fresh ground coffee.

Hubs says: This sugar scrub smells like scarves, UGG boots (minus the animal torture), and the pumpkin farm.

Mulled Cider Sugar Scrub: Mix together 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 4 drops of orange essential oil, 1 drop nutmeg essential oil, 2 drops cinnamon bark essential oil and 1 drop clove essential oil.

Hubs says: This sugar scrub smells like an early morning in front of the fireplace before going out for the day.

Grab Your Flannel: Mix together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 4 drops frankincense essential oil, 3 drops orange essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil and two tablespoons oats.

Hubs says: This sugar scrub smells like sittin’ in the woods with wet leaves all around by an old Hemlock…waitin’ for a deer.

Store in a glass container. I use small mason jars or 4 ounce cobalt jars as they are the perfect size to add to gift baskets. Be sure not to let water get into your scrub and be extra careful not to drop the container.

Rub a small amount of sugar scrub onto your skin, focusing attention on particularly dry and rough areas. Rinse off the sugar scrub with warm water. Pat skin dry and apply moisturizer like normal. I suggest using it twice a week for continued exfoliation throughout the season.
